10nm FPGAs with PCIe 5.0, DDR5, and CXL

Ever since Intel purchased Altera for an enormous amount of money a few years ago (ed: $16.7B), the FPGA portfolio that has been coming out has largely been a product of the pre-Intel days. Today however that changes, as Intel is announcing its first fully Intel-designed FPGA, built upon its own internal 10nm process, with the Agilex brand name. This new range of products is set to roll out later this year for sampling, and offer a mix of analog, digital, memory, custom IO, and eASIC variations within a singular platform.

13-inch with Ryzen, 15-inch with Ryzen or Core 8th Gen

In another announcement today out of the HP camp, the company has shared with us some updates to the Envy x360 line of convertibles. The Envy x360 13 is all AMD based system with a Ryzen based APU options, while the Envy x360 15 has both Intel Core 8th Gen processors or AMD Ryzen APUs available coupled with a choice of integrated graphics or a discrete NVIDIA GPU. HP Envy x360 13 (13-inch) Like the Envy notebooks HP announced, the all-metal exterior design aesthetics of the new Envy x360 units are minimal with the new Damascus pattern also making its way to the 13-inch and 15-inch convertibles.

AMD openSIL Planned to Replace AGESA Firmware in Client and Server in 2026

At a recent OCP Regional Summit held in Prague, AMD shared its plans to replace its AMD Generic Encapsulated Software Architecture (AGESA) firmware with an open-source alternative called Open-Source Silicon Initialization Library (openSIL). The new firmware would be ready for production use in 2026, following a multi-year, four phase development cycle. Firmware is a crucial component for modern computer systems, and on modern AMD systems, that critical code blob is AGESA.
